Hi,
Just found this forum and wondered if anyone else has had a similar problem.
I have a crew cab 54 reg D22. I brought it from an independant dealer in September 08. I was really pleased with it as it towed my twin axle caravan brilliantly and was great for fitting family, dog and luggage.
However in February 2009 I was driving on the motorway (not towing) when I pulled out to overtake. At this point I lost power and noticed black smoke out the back of the van. There was also a knocking noise from the engine. I pulled over immediately.
I received a letter in January about the connecting rods engine warranty extension, and thought it might be related as symptons were similar (knocking and loss of power). It was recovered to a local Nissan dealer
They have finally looked at it today and tell me a piston has melted so it's not covered by the warranty.
I've had to buy an old N reg vauxhall frontera to tow my 'van (only just!), but it's lasted longer than my pickup.
So I need a new engine. Tried to see what the dealer I brought it from could do, but he says his warranty is only for 3 months.
Any recommendations / advice would be great thanks.

Nissan have quoted £9052 to fix the problem! Apparently it's a fuel injection problem and not covered by the extended warranty. So now searching for a replacement.....
