hi there Mike and welcome, first things first, check your service records are upto date (nissan use this as a cop out)
contact you local Nissan dealer for investigation as soon as the knocking sound is noticed also contact the Nissan Customer Service team on 01923 899334 and give them full details, dont give any slack and dont take no for an answer even if your service shedule isnt perfect , its been proved that a vehicle with full nissan servicing are still at risk, very very good chance of a new engine cheers nik 07787 163 185

We have a D22 ‘54’ Navara 57,000 miles which on 24th Nov 2008 a knocking noise started coming from the engine, we had been told by friends about the watchdog report so my husband had the foresight to stop and ring our breakdown recovery. Our local Nissan dealership assessed the vehicle and reported to Nissan UK that the engine has failed due to the con rod problem. We do not have a full Nissan Service History as our warranty booklet and service history were damaged as our home was flooded. Our previous dealings with Nissan have not always been positive so we chose to go independently for the majority of our servicing. I have emailed all relevant invoices and receipts relating to the service history to Nissan UK and have not had any response to my emails or phone calls. I keep being told when I ring that the case manager dealing with our problem will call me back. It appears that if vehicles are failing with this problem with a full Nissan service history this really does confirm that servicing via Nissan Dealers makes no difference whatsoever to these vehicles, if the con rod is going to fail it will fail. We have a small business which is suffering without this vehicle and we are hiring a small replacement to our cost. How long will it be before someone gets really hurt, as it seems Nissan are still in denial with this issue? Maybe we should put signs on our tail gates warning drivers not to drive behind us as they may be taking a high risk to their safety (if the con rod fails at speed leaving a trail of metal fragments and oil in the path of following traffic as reported on BBC Watchdog).

Hi Janette Welcome to the site .I don,t know if you saw my original reply to your post better if you hadn,t as was a classic example of posting whilst irresponsibly drinking malt whisky I did feel grim the next day .However ,one of our members was in a similiar to you and recieved 6,400 pounds from nissan .This included ,repair to engine ,hire of vehicle, bought second vehicle and was refunded Tax and insurance, And money lost when reselling second vehicle. Nissan are claiming here on this site that they consider each case fairly I do not believe this. I have facts and figures from various members concerning their resolution Regards Niall

Niall - Thanks for your reply. Can you tell me how many Nissans you know of that have had there engine repaired/replaced with & without documentation of a full service history and those that have been refused and on what grounds?
Thanks Janette

Hi Janette If you look through the posts you will see that in one instance ,resolution was refused on the grounds of navara being a cyprus import Littletrucker was eventually sorted out to the tune of 6,400 pounds and I have all the details of servicing etc If you look at my own refusal,I was turned down on the grounds of tyres being well worn and repairs that were not attended to So you will see that nissan were using any excuse not to repair or replace engines Nissan have said in here that they have replaced up to 14 engines and these belonged to the original members .Solicitors acting for nissan are insisting on a confidentiallity clause in any settlement with me,so it would not surprise me if they have done this to other members .Either that or the members who had resolution did not have the courtesy to tell Nik and I ,despite the hard work we put in I spoke to VOSA again today about the danger posed to us and other vehicles when in the event of conrod failure on the motorway etc Only nissan know how many engines they have replaced or repaired and they are certainly not going to tell us I had a chappie this week come up to me in Stornoway and thanked me for all the help I had given through this site He had a new engine supplied and fitted free of charge I,ve a big sign on the back of mine saying I,ve got a Knackerednavara and it draws lots of attention You can get one from Nik.We also believe that nissan have an operative as a member on our site ,watching what we say I,ve been threatened with legal action by nissan if I say anything defamatory Some members have had a positive experience with customer service ,others have not so please keep us informed as to how you get on Regards Niall
