Hi... I have been offered a 2004 Navara with just 9000 miles. The vehicle has been sat for 3 years unused & has no history. I'm probably going to buy it but with a view to pulling the engine straight out & replacing the rod bolts, oil pump o-ring as described in other threads as a long term precaution. I have spoken to a so call Navara engine rebuilding specialist who claims that most failures are due to the con rods cracking down the centre?? Has anybody seen or know of this?? Are there any uprated or modified rods on the market?? Or is he just talking rubbish??? Thanks

Hi tesla If nissan have extended the warranty to 5 years and 92,000 miles why bother?

I don't have any service history with the vehicle & it sounds from other threads that Nissan will only warrant the engine with proven history? I like the vehicle & will probably keep it for a while so I think I'd rather go for prevention rather than cure for the sake of a day of my own labour.

Tesla ,if this car has only done 9,000 miles then it has only had 1 service and is due another in 3,000 miles The car must be on Nissans system and if the new warranty is in force you have at least another year of warranty .Have you considered a professional rebuild ?There,s an address on this site and more on 4x4 chat forum. If you feel that you are in the wrong place then you are perfectly entitled to go somewhere else. regards Niall

I was just interested to know if anyone had ever seen the rods crack along thier centre line? It's obvious that this engine has got about a 50% chance of failing if I use it for towing by 50K & I don't want to trust in Nissan to sort it out afterwards. I'm a auto mechanic & I'd rather uprade the weak components of the engine now & maintain the vehicle myself & have peace of mind. It looks like the rest of the vehicle is fairly bullet proof.

This car sounds a good buy to me and nissan have used the fact that the navara has the best towing capability in their advertising very heavily We all ,with the exception of Mick have had nonsense from nissan customer couldn,t care services. There must be someone on the net who could supply you with conrods that will be up to the job
