Hi All
I had the dreaded con rod through the block on my 2004, sub 50,000 mile D22 Navara a few weeks ago.
I contacted Nissan Customer Services as per the extended warranty letter. After a few phone calls spent going round in circles I asked for a manager to phone me back which they duly did. I explained my predicament and my doubts regarding my vehicles incomplete sevice history (none recorded in the service book between 21,000 and 40,000 miles before I bought the vehicle) in relation to the extended warranty. This was followed by sending a very to the point probing letter, and images of my damaged engine.
It was agreed to send the vehicle to a Nissan dealer for investigation and if it was indeed proven to be the well known con rod issue (one lying on the ground below the vehicle being a bit of a clue) then Nissan would pay for the repair and the investigation in full.
The investigation confirmed that the damage was con rod related, Nissan duly replaced the engine and all other damaged parts of which there were plenty. The dealer found that my clutch was fairly worn, as you would expect at this mileage. I agreed to pay for a clutch kit which was fitted at the same time, which was fair enough as far as I was concerned.
I have the pick up back and it is running as sweet as a nut. All credit to Nissan in my case, they could not have done any more and possibly could have hung me out to dry using the service history as an excuse.
Keep the faith gents/ladies, I do not know if Nissan attitudes have changed or I was lucky (or rattled the right cages) but my experience was as good as it could have been and all credit to Nissan Customer Services...........
