This is my story....with some irony thrown in aswell.
I bought an 02 Navara D22 pick up to start off my business making and selling water features out of slate. I needed a pick-up which doubled as a family vehicle and something that could tow well. Thinking this was a decent work horse - I chose a D22 that had just dropped out of it's 3 yr warranty with little over 30,000 on the clock. (5 years ago)
I regularly serviced the truck with my local dealer and spent a fortune on keeping this servicing upto date.
I had just received a letter from Nissan saying my D22 was due a service on the Monday....
Then the unthinkable happened....on the Thursday before, traveling south on the M3 I heard a bang and all power was lost (in the middle lane), I managed to get over to the hard shoulder. On opening the bonnet, things didn't look pleasant. The con rod had come through the block and there was oil everywhere.
I got recovered back to my mates garage and after a quick look, he advised to start looking for a re-conditioned engine.
I phoned around and registered an inquiry with breakerlink.com and a company called JAP AUTOS in Birmingham came to my rescue (well that's what I thought). Remember this name and please don't let anyone else use this company.
I also phoned Nissan Customer Services and they advised because of the age of the vehicle, only an 02 and only 90k on the clock they wouldn't do anything to help me out.
My mate removed the old engine and the new one went in. However, this wouldn't go beyond 20mph. He took the gearbox back out, checked the fly wheel and the timing and all was good.
Still no more than 20mph possible.
He sent the pump away to get tested as we thought this was restricting the fuel through but this passed and was working fine.
I then drove the vehicle over to Nissan (yes, at 20mph) and got them to look at it. £1000 later, they tole me they couldn't find the problem. They'd checked the timing etc and everything was o.k.
I then decided to send this back to JAP AUTOS in Birmingham as the new engine was still under warranty, they put a new one in (no2) and managed to get it upto 50 ish mph and said it was working fine - Bull sh$$ !! Another £350 for fitting.
I drove it back to Southampton as I wasn't getting anywhere with these jokers (managed 70mph down hill) and phoned Westway Nissan. They advised to bring it in. Bearing in mind I had spent a £1000 with them previously, I was quite reluctant.
They had a look at it and the chief tech advised to buy a new Gearbox switch for £30. I thought yes, after spending £3k, I thought another £30 would solve it - This made no difference what so ever.
We then attached the computer and took it for a spin, the tech said he would compare the readings with a similar D22 he was re-building - surprise surprise that was a con rod issue (
3 weeks later they got back to me saying all readings were the same.............agh !!
Symptoms = It's just gutless, with only half the acceleration as though the Turbo isn't kicking in, but I've been told it's working fine. Pump working fine, injectors working fine - What the hell is wrong with it ?
My truck went bang in June, 6 months later and over £3k out of pocket my truck is still sat outside the house as I can't sell it. All of this, a few days before it's next service was due, with a full service history. These vans should go for 200k miles plus, not 90k !?!?
I'm now on the case with Nissan customer services and need to send them an E-Mail detailing all of this and sending proof of the original issue etc.
I'm self employed and have already spent far too much time trying to sort this out but can't write off £3k.
My mates all run their own small businesses and require heavy duty work horses....Unfortunately the Nissan Navara has not been recommended and they're spreading the word....
