Dear Mr .....
Thank you for your enquiry regarding the Nissan Navara Pickup (D22 model).
I apologise firstly if I am giving you information here that you already know. Navara is a brand name covering three different types of Nissan vehicles. The issue relating to the connecting rod bearings, is applicable only to one of the three models, namely the model code D22.
Firstly, you need to establish which vehicle model you have. You can do this by looking at the model description on the spine of your vehicle’s handbook, or by looking at the 7th – 9th characters of your vehicle’s identification number (VIN). If you have either the D40 or NP300 models, your vehicle is not in any way affected by this issue.
If your vehicle is the D22 model, then there are a small number of engines produced prior to August 2006 which may be affected. For clarity, 97% of D22 vehicles will not be affected by this issue. To find out if your D22 vehicle could be affected, you need to find out your vehicle’s engine serial number. This is located on the engine block; looking from the front of the vehicle, it is on the right-hand side, behind the pulleys.
Engine numbers after YD25DDTI219661 are not affected and are proved 100% reliable with regards to this issue. If the engine number is before YD25DDTI219661, then it may be one of the vehicles which could experience this issue.
If your D22 vehicle has an engine serial number in the range which could be affected, correct maintenance schedules will help to ensure that this problem does not occur. If this issue does occur, the loud knocking noise from the engine gives the driver significant prior notice that the bearings may be failing, and at this point, if you experience this noise, you should take your vehicle into an authorised Nissan dealer, to rectify the issue.
I can confirm that all regularly serviced, D22 engines, are covered by an extended pan European warranty of up to 5 years, or 93,000 miles (whichever comes first), to cover the connecting rod bearing issue should it occur. Our authorised Nissan dealerships have been made aware of this.
We do not expect the issue to materialise in any D22 vehicles outside of this extended warranty period. However, should it happen in an engine outside of this period, and if it is deemed to be for the same fault with a correctly maintained vehicle, these cases will be handled sympathetically.
Because there are only a very small percentage of certain D22 engines which could experience this issue, there is no preventative measure that we can take unless the issue manifests itself. If this issue does occur, the loud knocking noise from the engine gives the driver significant prior notice that the bearings may be failing, and at this point, if you experience this noise, you should take your vehicle into an authorised Nissan dealer, to rectify the issue.
Should you require any assistance in obtaining this information, please do not hesitate to contact our French customer service department on + 33 8 10 21 21 21
Yours sincerely
