Hi,
I am new to the site, but it is good to find a useful source of information.
I have a 2000 model navara 2.5 TD with intercooler that was manufactured in Japan. Can anyone advise me whether I should be concerned about the engine con rod failures that I keep hearing about? I have spoken to the dealer here in Limassol and they tell me that they have had no failures of this kind only a small number of cylinder head problems.
Mine now has 83K miles on the clock and seems to run well. Had the oil and filter changed very often and the whole vehicle looks good. My only concern is that when I changed the air filter recently I notices some oil on the inlet side of the turbo and am not sure what this is an indication of - any ideas anyone?

Hi, having had a reply from Nissan UK, I thought that I should provide an update. This is the gist of what they said:
"If your D22 vehicle has an engine serial number in the range which could be affected, correct maintenance schedules will help to ensure that this problem does not occur. If this issue does occur, the loud knocking noise from the engine, and loss of power, gives the driver significant prior notice that the bearings may be failing, and at this point, if you experience this noise, you should take your vehicle into an authorised Nissan dealer, to rectify the issue.
Because there are only a very small percentage of certain D22 engines which could experience this issue, there is no preventative measure that we can take unless the issue manifests itself. Although I cannot say for definite whether or not your vehicle will be affected, I can tell you that the D22 has been on sale since 2001, with over 19,000 vehicles being sold in the UK and over 250,000 in Europe. The overwhelming majority of which have performed to expectations of both Nissan and our customers, proving to be sound, reliable work vehicles. Only 2.4% of vehicles with this engine, have experienced a problem, and the place of manufacture will not affect this.
The regular servicing of your vehicle, and its reliability so far, makes it unlikely that the problem will occur in your vehicle. Whilst we do not expect the issue to materialise in any D22 vehicles outside of our extended warranty period, should it happen, and if it is deemed to be for the same fault with a correctly maintained vehicle, these cases will be handled sympathetically."
In my case, I have checked with Nissan here in Cyprus and they advise that my car was manufactured in 2000 and therefore, is not in the range of engine numbers for those cars affected as they were manufactured between 2001 and 2006. I confess that this gives me some confidence that mine might be ok, but I still find myself in a state of panic if I hear a strange noise of any sort - not good for my nerves at all! At least Nissan here now seem to acknowledge that there may be a problem on some cars, but the Limassol dealer still maintains that they have not had a problem with any of their Navaras.
Would anyone like to raise any points on the above?
