Hi,
I have a 5 year old Navara D22 that has done 54,000 miles and still in rude health but I have been concerned with how long the engine will last especially as I tend to pound down the motorway at fast lane speeds.
Just wanted to let you know the outcome of a recent email exchange with Maria White at Nissan customer service.
I wrote to her to ask if there was anything I could do in terms of maintenance to ensure the prolonged life of the motor. She said that Nissan did not recommend anything other than following the service schedule. She went on to explain that Nissan had extended the warranty on the engine to 5 years or 92,000 miles.
I explained that my truck was now 5 years old and her response was "I know that our extended warranty terms will shortly expire upon your vehicle due to its age; however your mileage is relatively low. In the event that you experience a failure of this nature, up to a maximum mileage of 92000 miles, please contact me immediately and we may look at sending one of our engineers to establish the cause of the failure; whether that be manufacturing defect or service related. "
I have followed the service regime although not religiously with some services a bit late in terms of time, a couple of months or mileage, up to 2k. I passed the details of this to Maria and she did not think that this would be a problem.
The final correspondence I received was the following
"Thank you for your service details. I will hold these on record.
In the event you experience a failure as discussed, I would at that juncture need a copy of your stamped service booklet or in its absence, copies of your service receipts. Please ensure that you continue to maintain the vehicle, as this would be a factor that we take into consideration should a failure occur.
I will be setting up an official case on our database however to do so, I will require your address details including post code.
Once this is done, I will furnish you with a case reference number so that all our correspondence is officially recorded."
So now I feel reassured that I can continue to enjoy my truck and if something did fail on the engine that Nissan would consider putting it right. I just need to keep up the service schedule now.
I hope this helps other worried owners.
