Re the loss of earnings - we just listed it in our claim and they agreed to settle it. We probably lost a lot more than we actually claimed for but it was really good to get something back at least. We sent letters registered post as advised from this website. Called customer services and the dealership dozens of times. Don't give up, it's worth the fight. I look forward to reading that you get settlement too.

Hi everybody , my name is Michel from France. I have a D22 and no problem ... for the moment . This message is to tell you we have the same conrod problem in France, and we opened a dedicated forum, like this one: www.casse-pickup-nissan.org/forum/index.php. Some people had the problem and are in relation with Nissan , but it's hard to obtain something. Others (like me) have not the problem but we know by our Nissan dealer that our vehicule could potentially have it. For this reason, one of us cancelled a trip in Mauritania. We would like to have more details on the cause, if it's possible to prevent the problem , how Nissan will manage the case after the 5 year warranty (we are all near or over this limit ! ), but it's very difficult to have clear answers. the Nissan dealers seems to know more than they tell us .... Now, some of our members read your forum to find informations, very interesting...

I have a 52 reg D22 thats done 52k miles. No problems yet but can't decide if there is an issue or not. Spoke to Nissan main dealer (Bath) after my last service. They said there are no reliability issues with the YD25 engine. There was apparently failures of a few early vehicles imported from Cyprus. There was also a timing chain tensioner recall, that if not done, could account for some failures? Have you established how many failures there has been compared with the number of vehicles in service? My idea is to trade mine in to a Nissan Main Dealer that has an L200, I can be sure they are not going to reduce the trade-in value because of the uncertainty over the engine. If they do try that they will be admitting their is a problem.

Hi all. New to the site and just wanted to add the details of my vehicle problems.
Purchased used in the summer. 120k miles but after an engine rebuild so I thought all was good. Problem with the rebuild led to the timing chain tensioner seizing, the chain going and the head getting slammed.
I've had the head rebuilt and have been told to get the bottom end bearings and oil pump done too.
Is it worth getting the con rods replaced now whilst the lump is in pieces to avoid problems in the future? If so, what spec replacements? Is it necessary to replace the crank too? Is there anything else that should be done whilst he's in there?
I've already spent about 40% of what I paid for it getting it fixed and would prefer to go the extra mile to get it right.
Clearly I'm only in this mess because the thing went bang in the first place so I'd also like to join the mutual Nissan hate campaign! Who do I pay...
Please let me have any advice you can - I'm going broke trying to sort this out....

Hi Andy, my first post too, i've rebuilt quite a few of these motors and the common problem is big end bearing fatigue usually on no's 3 and 4 cylinders, the bearing shell starts to break up and results in the con rod splitting across its oil feed hole which then comes apart and throws through the block casing. I havn't seen any damage caused by the big end bolts and nuts coming loose apart from when the con rod splits as described above, i would suggest that you replace the big end bearing shells and you may as well replace the bolts and nuts for peace of mind. Hope this info helps. Cheers, Steve.

John, you need to get the ecu scanned to find out what fault codes are stored, then you can get fix from there, an intermittant fault as you describe could be just the egr valve sticking open which can affect the engine power and bring on the engine light. Cheers, steve.
