Hi all,
Our Navara died Xmas eve on the way home, it had started a light tapping noise some days previous which we had put down to a tappet. It escalated so we had it towed home where it sat all over the xmas period.
We started some research assuming they had hydraulic tappets fitted and one had failed. This search came up with this site which prompted us to dig out the vehicle file and find the extended 5yr warranty. Nissan's description of the engine fault exactly described our trucks symptom's.
We dithered as to contacting Nissan HQ/customer support as advised by your site, but decided to phone our local Nissan dealer (who we purchased the truck from 18mths ago). They asked us to get it delivered to there local garage and they would inspect it. They requested we drop the service book as well and requested nothing further.
We dropped the truck off via a local haulier and accompanied it, the nissan workshop manager accepted the truck and never mentioned any costs that we would have to bear for the inspection/strip-down to our surprise.
We left the truck with them for two days before chaseing up, to be informed all was in hand the technicians had found two sets of main bearings had picked up the white metal and a con-rod was cracked. Nissan had asked certain relevant questions and authorized a new engine and all costs covered.
Today 8 days later we collected our truck, new engine, fully serviced (book stamped) and cleaned.
The Navara was just on/maybe slightly over the 5 yr warranty, full nissan service history ( bar the last service which was done by myself, an apprentice served diesel fitter but this was not questioned)42000 on the clock and just due the next service.
We can only say what excellent service we received from first our local Nissan Dealer Dorchester Nissan in Dorset and the speed of response from Nissan customer services.
regards to all Steve and Chris
